Keeping Kids Healthy
Breakfast - what is it good for? PDF Print E-mail
Why should we eat breakfast?
  • Studies have shown that those who eat breakfast generally consume more energy during the day, yet are less likely to be overweight;
  • School students who report eating breakfast regularly tend to have better nutrient intakes than their breakfast-skipping peers;
  • The brain’s only source of energy is glucose, so if you don’t eat anything for breakfast, your brain is less likely to function efficiently.

Living Lunchbox Tip No 20

Emphasise fruit in season and instead of apples and bananas all the time, give your kids strawberries, kiwi fruit halves with a spoon, pineapple chunks, melon slices or cherries. Cut an orange into quarters, put back together and wrap whole. Let them try fresh dates, or unusual fruits such as lychees, figs or rambutans.
